Sunshine was created using spray paint and latex paint on canvas board.  It comes framed in wood without glass.

The Story:

Sunshine is an abstract painting that was and exercise in pure play.  There isn’t much to say about it really.  I was experimenting with combinations of spray paint and latex paint.

I started by spray painting a canvas board in a high gloss white.  While that was wet, I dripped & poured blue and yellow latex paint.  The latex paint has a semi-gloss finish.  I used a can of compressed air to push the wet paints around a bit.  The result is a mix of finishes with a slight texture.

The frame is a natural wood frame that I coated with a matte varnish after it was lightly sanded.  The frame was actually purchased for a different piece.  That piece was a bit too deep for the frame but it works perfectly here. The canvas board is only 4″ x 6″ so the width of the frame gives it much grander appearance.

The name Sunshine comes from the color scheme.  Abstract pieces can be hard to name.  In this case, it was a beautiful sunny day when I created this.  The blue, yellow, and white color scheme just screams “sunshine on a partly cloudy day” to me.  This was a fun piece to create.
