Jazz is an abstract painting made with acrylic paint and paint markers on canvas board. It comes framed in a black metal frame without glass.
Jazz is an abstract doodle, put simply. I purchased 12″ x 12″ canvas panels in bulk just before I did this one. I don’t really draw at all but for some reason I decided to try to draw on the canvas board. After the initial outline of the shapes was finished, I began painting the rest of the areas. The colors are all acrylic paint that has been thinned with an acrylic medium. I wanted it to be a bit like watercolor.
The black areas were then painted in first with black acrylic but then with paint marker. The markers made it easier to create sharper lines since my hands suffer from tremors frequently. I think I may do other pieces in this vein in the future since it was challenging but also very interesting. If you’re looking to do the same, I highly recommend not using canvas panels. The texture makes the sharp lines very difficult to deal with. I would recommend a flat wood panel instead.
The name was chosen because it reminds me of Jazz music for some reason. If I had to guess, it’s probably due to the color scheme. I had fallen in love with a piece by a local artist that had some similar colors in the background. It was a musically inspired piece which reminded me of jazz as well. I think my brain got stuck on that for a bit.
