The Day of the Dead is a celebration of loved one who have passed on. The holiday has an amazing aesthetic featuring brightly colored skulls, flowers, friends, family, and good food & drink. My original pieces were created for a Dia de los Muertos themed show in Alexandria, VA. After that first show, I expanded the series. Most of my work is centered around creating archetypes for each of the skulls. As time went on, I began to experiment with different sizes & types of skulls so a more decorative element began to emerge.
While I’ve had fun creating these works, I think the theme has run its course for me. In 2016 I plan to use the last of my remaining skulls. Once those are finished, then I will officially retire the Day of the Dead theme.
