Title: Blue Summer
Size: 10 1/4″ x 8 1/4″ x 1 3/8″
Blue Summer was created using painter’s caulk, acrylic paint, and polyurethane on canvas board. It comes framed without glass.
Blue Summer doesn’t have much of a story for me to tell. I had created another piece using painter’s caulk mixed with acrylic paint. When I was finished with that one, I had a lot of left over caulk. This piece and Baby Blues were created from the left over mixture.
I placed the various colors of blues, teal, & a bit of purple on the canvas board haphazardly. Using a good-sized paintbrush, I created a swirling pattern. This blended the colors in a swirling pattern. Then, at various intervals I pulled upwards with the brush creating little peaks to emphasize the swirl and to add a bit of extra interest. Also, I can’t help but to add texture to my work. It’s an odd compulsion I have.
Once it was dried, I carefully brushed a dark blue acrylic paint onto the peaks. The center of the spiral was painted with a teal acrylic paint. After the paint dried, the entire piece was sealed with a high gloss polyurethane. The gloss of the polyurethane really makes this piece especially vibrant.
The piece is framed in a deep, black metal frame. There is no glass due to the texture. It comes with a sawtooth hanger.
