Lilacs was made using spray paint and painter’s caulk on canvas. It comes framed in a black metal frame without glass.
Lilacs is an abstract painting that is highly textured. It features several colors of purple spray paint accented with a light green spray paint. I used high gloss spray paints which gives the piece depth and interest in a variety of viewing angles.
This painting started out looking very different. I created a series of four panels, each with the same texture pattern but painted a different color. Over the years they were repainted. The series really wasn’t successful either time. I finally decided to separate the panels and have fun repainting them. This is the third of the four pieces (the fourth hasn’t been repainted yet). The others are Summer Concert & Outrageous.
The title was the hardest part of this painting. This piece was finished for months before I uploaded it to the site because I could not think of what to call it. I almost called it ‘Lavender Flowers’ but the green was too bright. I finally settled on ‘Lilacs’ after looking at photos of purple flowers on the internet. For some reason, I was stuck on the idea that it had to have a floral name.
The frame on this painting is 1″ deep but I know it may not be to everyone’s liking. I’m always happy to deduct the cost of the frame and sell the bare canvas. The sides of the canvas have not been fully finished. They are purple but there are drip marks from the darker purple and greens.
